The purpose of this form is to provide customers with documentation concerning the assignment of additional IP numbers. Below is information concerning IP address number assignments that have been established by both ARIN (http://www.arin.net) as well as VIRTBIZ Internet.
You no longer need an IP number for each website. With the introduction of HTTP v1.1, it is now possible to run as many websites as you would like using a single IP number. The HTTP v1.1 protocol is currently supported by all of the popular web server software as well as all the major search engines. This new technology is commonly referred to as “Named Based Virtual Hostingâ€.
There are two major benefits of using named based virtual hosting: (1) You do not incur a cost for each additional website you place on your server because you no longer need to buy an additional IP for each site; and (2) it makes managing the DNS for these websites much easier as there are not a large group of IP numbers that you need to manage. For more information on implementing named based virtual hosting please see the following: Apache Web Server: http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/vhosts/name-based.html Microsoft IIS Web Server: http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q190008
Who is ARIN and what do they do? ARIN is the non-profit organization that manages IP address allocation in the U.S. They are one of three Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) worldwide which collectively provide IP registration services to all regions around the globe. This is where VIRTBIZ, and all other providers in North America get their IP addresses--and thus, who VIRTBIZ must answer to when our data center customers want additional IP address for their dedicated server(s).
What are the ARIN policies regarding address space assignment? The ARIN rules specifically read: “The most important factor in evaluating requests for additional address space is the current utilization of address space by the requesting ISP as well as its downstream customers. ISPs must have efficiently utilized all previous allocations, and at least 80% of their most recent allocation in order to receive additional space. This includes all space reassigned to their customers. Therefore, it is important that ISPs require their downstream customers to follow the efficient utilization practices described in this and other ARIN guidelines.†You can read more about their specific rules and policies by visiting their website at www.arin.net.
VIRTBIZ Internet Services has an obligation to ARIN to make sure that the address space that is under VIRTBIZ's control is used as efficiently as possible. Customers requesting additional IP numbers must prove that they have allocated at least 80% of their assigned address space by completing the form at the bottom of this document.
VIRTBIZ will review the completed form and check to make sure that the information in the form is accurate and a true representation of the customers IP number usage. If VIRTBIZ feels that the customer has not made efficient use of the address space already assigned to them they may be denied any additional assignments.
